  • Microsoft Education contract win for Cortex underlines Edinburgh’s prominence as a key European tech hub
  •  Microsoft Education website is one of the software giant’s top three sites globally

Edinburgh – Monday 15th February 2016; Cortex Worldwide, the Edinburgh-based enterprise web software specialist, is celebrating its first 12 months in business by securing Microsoft as a client.

Cortex has been engaged to tell the software giant’s educational story globally, whilst ‘localising’ that message into 30 different languages.

The software giant is the latest global brand, following deals secured from the likes of vacuum cleaner technology innovators, Dyson and Saban Brands, the Los Angeles-based entertainment investment company behind the “Power Rangers” franchise, that has called upon the expertise of the young Edinburgh digital company’s innovative I/AM online platform solution, which is designed to transform and streamline enterprise organisations’ online offering.

Microsoft Education operates in sophisticated markets and is heavily engaged in the global teaching community and student population, but now requires to increase the speed and efficiency of its website platform to manage very high levels of traffic from around the world, as Cortex Founder and Managing Director Peter Proud explains;

“Microsoft Education represents a highly mature engagement online but its site required attention to optimize every facet of its operation. Educational needs across all different geographies were met following the creation of a hybrid solution that tells the Microsoft’s educational story globally. Cortex achieved this in one month and has now been engaged by Microsoft to host its global education website.

Moreover, Cortex’s prompt online action, working to a four week turnaround, ensured that students and teachers worldwide were able to access Microsoft’s education services before the next school year – with website performance kept intact, at all times, with no site outages.”

Jason Cockrum, Director Marketing Worldwide for Microsoft Education, says: “At Microsoft we invest heavily in our education work where it is all about empowering everyone especially teachers helping students in the classroom. It is critical how we achieve this and I could not be more excited about the new Digital Infrastructure that Cortex is now delivering on our behalf.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2”][vc_column_text]”What we are doing here at Microsoft Education is something that is very vast, very big with between half-a-million to one million visits to the website monthly. One-in-seven people on the planet are somehow involved in education and we need our websites to really speak to all these different audiences.

“It is all about delivering instant messages, very much on a localised basis through case studies and lesson plans, to help school leaders really think about how to use technology different. This we are now doing,” he adds.

Cortex is the latest stand-out technology company to emerge from Scotland’s capital that continues to stake its claim as the leading tech hub in Europe joining others including travel booking platform Skyscanner, Fanduel and Rockstar, creator of Grand Theft Auto.

For the past decade, Edinburgh has recorded a year-on-year increase in start-up tech outfits and is currently accelerating that growth.
